Mobile software provider Aepona announced a new $10 million investment round led by BlackBerry Partners Fund, the $150 million venture capital fund formed to focus on mobile applications and services across Research In Motion's BlackBerry platform. Existing investors Amadeus Capital Partners, Polaris Ventures, Innovacom, Nordic Venture Partners and Sutter Hill Ventures also participated in the round. Aepona's Network-as-a-Service model promises mobile operators the tools to create new revenue opportunities from assets and functionality like billing, location, messaging and voice communications; according to Aepona, it exposes and shares these assets as Web Service APIs available to developers, enterprises and media companies. Aepona now works with more than 20 Tier-1 mobile operators worldwide.
