TORONTO, Canada, May 27, 2010 - International Data Corporation (IDC) has released a new study that profiles ten emerging companies to watch in Canada that are offering mobile/wireless solutions. The IDC study, 10 Canadian Mobile & Wireless Companies to Watch (IDC #CA2TIW10), provides insight into the companies' solutions, go-to-market strategies, partners, customers, and general trends in the mobile and wireless market and their impact on Canadian startups.
"There's some really cool technology being developed by Canadian startups in the mobile and wireless space that is definitley worth watching," said Krista Napier, senior analyst, Canadian Technology Innovation Watch at IDC Canada. "Mobile marketing, couponing, analytics, smartgrid enablement, TV and video on demand - even for traditional phones, mobile money servcies, mobile enterprise apps, and product life-cycle management are hot opportunities where Canadian startups are innovating and excelling with mobile and wireless technology."
With improved high-speed wireless networks, Canada is positioned to accommodate the increasing usage of data intensive apps on the increasing number of smartphones, which have reached about 17% adoption in Canada, with device shipments growing by 22% this year, making mobile and wireless an attractive market.
"Big brands, media companies, service providers, ISVs and enterprises want to get more involved in the mobile space with mobile solutions to better connect and communicate with their end users and/or drive revenue opportunities and efficiencies. However, time and expertise to develop these mobile solutions across platforms are luxuries most companies do not have," says Napier. "Herein lies the problem in the market, and this is exactly where fast and flexible startups are finding opportunity."
