Today WorldMate published its key usage statistics for 2011. "We have experienced phenomenal growth," comments WorldMate's CEO, Jean Tripier. "Our users flew nearly 12 billion miles in 2011 and we have quadrupled the number of itineraries under our management. This effectively means that WorldMate is the largest mobile itinerary management platform today. Looking ahead to 2012 we expect our growth rate to accelerate as we have strong partners, a highly scalable platform, and many large prospects that need us to power their travel itinerary management solution."
WorldMate shared the following data from the itineraries it managed in 2011 and the travel bookings made within the WorldMate apps:
- Number of Registered Users on iPhone/Android/BlackBerry: 3,001,771
- Number of Itineraries Managed in 2011: 4,225,414
- Number of Miles Flown in 2011: 11,954,647,500
- Number of Hotel Room-Nights Managed in 2011: 4,592,604
- Percent of Hotels Booked (in App) within 1 day of Check-in: 52%
- Number of Car Rental-Days Managed in 2011: 2,019,915
- Percent of Car Rentals Booked (in App) within 1 day of Check-in: 42%
- Number of Meetings Managed in 2011: 1,319,568
"We're going to surprise a lot of pundits by the millions of itineraries we're managing," predicts WorldMate's VP of Business Development, Ian Berman. "WorldMate is amassing these itineraries by quietly partnering on dozens of distribution deals with the dominant travel and mobile industry players around the world." WorldMate's Head of Products, Amir Kirshenboim, provides insights into a key trend among WorldMate users, "Our data shows that travelers are fundamentally changing their last-second purchase behavior by shifting away from serendipitous 'walk-ins' and, instead, pulling out their smartphones to shop for a hotel room or car rental. Those travel companies that can ascertain the real-time context of a traveler and market the right room at the right moment will collect windfall profits. We're harvesting our treasure trove of data to do exactly that."
