BlackBerry Partners Fund Announces Third Round of Finalists in 2009 BlackBerry Developer Challenge

A Total of 16 Developers to Compete for $250,000 Total Prize Package

TORONTO-September 1, 2009-The BlackBerry Partners Fund today announced that Wicked Blog App (by ScreamingToaster LLC), e-Mobile Today Professional Edition (by e-Mobile Software, Inc.), Unsynced Music Player (by Unsynced Inc.) and AFP Mobile News (by Handmark -- in partnership with AFP) are the third set Finalists in the 2009 BlackBerry Developer Challenge. To date, a total of 12 (of 16) Finalists have been selected by a panel of judges based on the following criteria: compelling product or service; clearly defined value proposition and technical execution.

  • Wicked Blog App- A professional-grade blog editor for users to manage Wordpress blogs from BlackBerry devices. Wicked includes a to-do list and social features including user profile picture and status as well as Twitter integration.
  • e-Mobile Today Professional Edition - A snazzy personal information management solution that overlays the BlackBerry start screen to provide a dashboard that tracks new email, SMS messages, calls, contacts, tasks and appointments. It also includes news, stocks and weather add-ons.
  • Unsynced Music Player - An application designed to find, manage and play music files stored on BlackBerry devices. While this application is used to manage and consume music files already on the device, Unsynced is working on a host of other upcoming features.
  • AFP Mobile News - Provides a truly global perspective on stories from the US, Canada and the world. Journalists from more than 80 nationalities tell the stories of today with a unique voice.

Each Finalist receives a prize package that is valued at more than US$5,000, and includes one week on the BlackBerry App World Featured Application Carousel; one BlackBerry Developers Conference pass; one BlackBerry smartphone; and, guaranteed participation in the BlackBerry Sweet 16 Demo Event at the 2009 BlackBerry Developers Conference. Finalists will compete for a grand prize package valued at over US$100,000; and a runner up prize package worth more than US$25,000.

The first eight (8) finalists selected include Fierce Towers (by Nickel Buddy), Astraware Solitare (by Handmark), Expense Manager (by Total Wireless Solutions), Vision for YouTube (by Metova), David (by Turner Technologies), Sid Meier's Pirates (by Concrete Software Inc.), CBS News (by Handmark), and Market Simplified (by Market Simplified Inc.)

The last four Finalists will be selected and announced at the end of September. Entries for the BlackBerry Developer Challenge will be accepted until September 25, 2009 at 11:59pm EDT.
